FAQ

  • During a consultation, the client is in control of how they spend their time while working with Dana - who is an open book and full of industry knowledge and expertise. Dana does not review the client’s documents before or after the consultation. There is no project management and we are not intimately involved with the project. Clients implement and communicate with their team on their own time.

DLD accepts a limited number of full service custom projects per year due to the level of detail required. Custom clients can expect us to think ahead for them, connect and work as the hub for the execution of their project. These clients pay us a retainer and are billed monthly.

If you are considering working with us as a custom client, it is required to book an initial consultation to see how we work together before a contract is signed.

  • Our Consultations are held virtually over Zoom. You will receive a link to join our call when you schedule your consultation. It is recommended that you send us documents (architectural plans, room measurements or images) prior to the consultation and Dana will have these readily available during your time together.

Once you are connected, Dana will begin to explore your project. You can share your screen, walk us through your space with your camera or even send us images of the space prior to your meeting.

There is no set structure to the meeting; the time is completely tailored to you. Dana can talk through any questions or ideas you’d like feedback on. Whether you're looking for design direction, solving layout challenges, or refining finishes - it’s a collaborative experience designed around your goals.

  • You may be surprised by how much ground can be covered in a single consultation. For example, we finished 15 minutes early in a recent color conversation, so we wound up designing window treatments for several rooms.

This is why preparation is crucial – the more you present to Dana, the more you can achieve during your time together. Especially once she understands your goals, budget, and perspective.

Examples of what Dana can advise on:

    • Floor plan layouts

    • Second opinions on past design decisions

    • Furniture styling/placement

    • Fixtures, finishes and trims

    • Cabinetry + Millwork

    • Paint color consults

    • Exterior refresh

    • Window treatments

    • Builder selection

    • Creation & review of budgets

  • Preparation can be as simple or as detailed as you would like. Some clients come with a clear vision and detailed plans, while others just bring a few photos and questions—and both approaches work beautifully.

To make the most of your time, we suggest pulling together a few images of the space you'd like help with, along with any inspiration or furnishings you're considering. Floor plans or mood boards are welcome too—anything that helps us understand your style and what you’re working toward. If you’re looking at specific items (furnishings, paint colors etc.) having detailed information ready can allow us to make the most of your time.

Once you book a consultation, you will receive an email with how to best prepare for your scheduled time with Dana.
